Brand New Day

Every spring, I become a hopeful little lookout.
 
I hang the feeder. I glance out the window. I listen for the familiar whir of tiny wings. And then I wait.
 
After a winter of bare branches and quiet skies, their return feels like magic.
 
As if the world is waking up and stretching its arms.
