Fly Like An Eagle
Oil on board
12x12 with balck floater frame.
In the 70’s we shopped at Sears.
On the weekends I wore hand me down “tough skins” pants from my brothers – they were the perfect thing to wear for playing and doing yard work.
By the time I wore them the knees had patches sown on to them.
My older brothers were always rough housing or playing sports.
Many times, I found myself in the soccer goal or under the basketball hoop retrieving balls.
There were only 6 channels to watch on tv at that time, and my dad was in charge of the sports schedule in the house.
Sundays in the fall, football was on, and of course, Monday night too.
At the time, I didn’t understand football, but I just love the ritual of being in the family room with my dad and brothers to watching the Eagles games.
“I want to fly like an eagle
to the sea
Fly like an eagle,
let me spirit carry me”
Looking back now, I not only appreciate the football time together, but the way they made me feel like I was part of a team.
I’m grateful for football (GO BIRDS!) and the way my dad prepared me to take flight repeatedly in my life.
